UK School Games
Congratulations to Friends’ pupils Mackenzie Connor, Ella Brown and Jamie Anderson who all won gold medals at the UK School Games held in Loughborough University recently representing Ulster U18 Hockey squads.
The School Games is an annual sporting competition for elite school-age athletes in the UK. The event is a multiple sports events held across an intensive four-day period at Loughborough University. Friends’ School pupils Ella Brown, Jamie Anderson and Mackenzie Connor represented Ulster Under 18s at the School Games. Both the boys and girls squads had comfortable first game wins on the Friday, with the girls defeating England Red 6-1 and the boys defeating Wales 7-1. This was followed up by both teams defeating England white on the Saturday, with the girls winning 3-1 and the boys winning 6-0. This meant that both teams were in the final on Sunday. The boys had a tough match against Scotland; however, a last minute winner by Mackenzie Connor saw the boys beat Scotland 3-2 earning the gold medal. The girls played Wales in the final which they won 4-0 with Ella Brown scoring two of the goals. This meant that Ulster were Double UK School Game Champions for the first time ever!
