Key Stage 3

In Years 8 and 9 all classes are un-streamed. Pupils are divided into five Collect groups and are taught in this arrangement for non-practical subjects. The practical subjects: Art and Design, Home Economics, Music, Science and Technology are taught in smaller groups.

In Years 9 and 10 the three Science subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught separately, each for two periods a week. All pupils study French in Year 8 and take up a second language in Year 9, choosing between German and Spanish.

Pupils in Year 8 follow a course in Learning for Life and Work comprising elements of Personal Development and Citizenship, during one period per week. Where possible, this is delivered by Year 8 Collect teachers. Some Personal Development elements are delivered during extended Collect times throughout the year. In a separate period, pupils follow a programme of Employability.

Year 9 pupils will cover elements of Personal Development during extended Collect times throughout the year, as part of their Pastoral programme.

In Year 10, pupils follow a course in Careers and Employability during one period a week with focus on career options, subject choices, decision making and action planning. Additionally, they follow a course in Citizenship and Personal Development, including Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Personal Responsibility and Relationships. Where possible, this is delivered by Year 10 Collect teachers. Some Personal Development elements are delivered during extended Collect times throughout the year.
